Strangely enough our founder was originally a dairy farmer. In order to help bring in additional income, Edward Durr purchased an ordinary piece of equipment which proved to be an extraordinary investment. That purchase, a tractor, was used to fill-in residential lots. As the demand for his services grew, Durr eventually closed the dairy farm. Not only did that single purchase help fill many of the residential lots of Jefferson Parish, it also helped build a company...E.C. Durr Contractor.

The business was purchased in 1976 by Durr’s daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Steve Stumpf. This change in ownership saw Durr grow from a "Mom & Pop" business to one of the largest demolition/site preparation firms in the Gulf South. In a short period of time, E.C. Durr Heavy Equipment, Inc. grew its revenue from $500,000 to over $15 million per year.

In 2000, the company changed its name to Durr Heavy Construction, LLC to accentuate its strength as a trusted construction contractor. Seven years later, Durr opened up an additional office in Covington to focus on its North Shore projects.

In 2010, the company was purchased by its 3rd generation owners and Durr’s grandchildren, Dana, Stephen and Shana Stumpf.
